Activity Description of "For the Birds"
| Title | For the Birds |
| Audience | Any biology class. |
| Abstract | This is a five-part individual project that can be used in any biology class in conjunction with a unit on birds. In Part I, students choose the bird that most reminds them of themselves and then write a paragraph explaining their choice. Part II requires students to research their birds. In Part III, students read articles on endangered or threatened species of birds in wildlife and nature magazines. Part IV deals with poetry about birds, and Part V requires students to make sketches and drawings of their chosen birds. Thus, this project is interdisciplinary in nature. Students of all ability levels especially enjoy the drawing component of the project, since we have no art in our curriculum. When the projects are completed, students are asked to share the part of their choice with the rest of their class. |
