The Episode One Mystery: Clarifications

For story reasons, we have limited the possible diseases and poisons to the few listed. In real life, investigators would have many more causes to consider.

In addition, the cause (or causes) of death is lethal in every case in which it appears. In real life, very few afflictions cause death in 100% of affected victims.

H.M.S. Arctica and her crew are fictitious, but all other Arctic explorations mentioned in the story are true. We have tried to present 19th-century life as accurately as possible, within the limits of an engaging story.

Do not look in an atlas for the Arctica's home port of Shelmerston. This English town exists only in the historical novels of Patrick O'Brian.
