Dark Sunrise

You wake with a start to darkness and bitter cold. Ice crackles as you move your head. By lamplight you see Claudia is still asleep. William's sleeping bag is empty.

Stumbling about the cabin, something catches your eye. A scroll of paper has emerged from behind one of the boarded-up shelves.

Claudia stirs, brushes the ice from her face. "What is it?"

"I found something."

"I hope it's something hot and tasty, like breakfast," she grumbles. "Where's William?"

You shrug and tug at the paper. It pulls free. You stare in disbelief.

"What is it?" Claudia wants to know.

"A fax."
