Why should we be concerned?
Well, why should we be concerned? I've already mentioned, number one, when an evasive species comes in, it has the potential of becoming an extraordinarily bad pest. Biotic material self-replicates and it can get out of hand. It can cause extinctions, it can disrupt ecosystem processes and lead to the loss of services and they can cause direct economic loss. So that's why we're concerned. We now, whether we like it or not, are managing the earth's ecosystems. If we're going to manage it, we want to manage it wisely and so we want to be able to know what all of the "players" are doing. If you're a park manager, you've got to know the biology of the species in your system. If you know the biology, you can plan and you can control and you can maybe try to attain a certain desired end point. If you have new plants coming in all the time, with new interactions, it gets to be a tough job.
