In Conclusion...
Since we found some of the same microbiotic species in all crusts, people tended to conclude that crusts all functioned in the same way. That's like saying a forest functions in a specific way, worldwide, regardless of the kind of trees or the climate. Now we're realizing that these crusts are very diverse communities, and they probably function differently in different places. They behave differently. They possess different species. I predict that in the next decade we are really going to be looking at all these other places and learning what the microbes do there. What are the microbiotic crusts doing in all these places, all around the world? How are they similar? How are they different? It's really an exciting time to be involved. Thanks for your attention.
