Rothschild:  It's Van Leeuwenhoek's birthday October 24. The answer is 366 for those of you who didn't know. Van Leeuwenhoek is one of my heroes. He's the one who first described all these "animalcules" in pond water. He wrote to the Royal Society of London for years about these creatures. And I understand they finally took some of their best scientists and said, "Can you repeat this?" They were able to and I believe he was elected to the Royal Society in London and Paris as well. I want to point out that studying protists is good for your health, but my grandmother died at 100 this year and I don't think she ever saw a protist.
