Conservation International's take on the megadiversity countries in the world. These are the countries that they consider to be of critical importance in our struggle to preserve biological diversity. Those (on the right) are the countries. It's not entirely uncontroversial because people present different models of this. But nevertheless it's an important indicator. The information, by the way, is available on the World Wide Web if you're interested.
As a reminder, this is a map that scales wealth, that logs countries by the scale of wealth of these countries. It gives you a slightly different picture. You'll notice, for example, that the Congo, which was one of the major biodiversity spots doesn't even appear on this map. Similarly, Madagascar and some of the other countries. Just a reminder of exactly the terms of the crisis which we're facing in biological diversity.
