Of course, we're not holding our collective breaths...
to see if the U.S. and Mexican governments will decide to begin returning some of the water to the ocean. I unfortunately am not too optimistic of that ever happening because we're already so reliant on the water of the Colorado. But perhaps some steps can be taken for ecological restoration. I do believe that this type of work is important, however, because it points out the implications and the consequences of our actions and we have to be able to document this. Perhaps this can be used to study similar situations. Perhaps our results can be used as arguments to approach similar disasters and there are countries around the world, including the United States, that are talking seriously about utilization on the scale of the Colorado, where the rivers will be completely utilized. Russia, even back when it was the Soviet Union, has been talking about that for some time on a scale that we can't even begin to imagine and ecological impacts that we're only just beginning to understand.
