ESRI/Home of the GIS People
The ESRI - Environmental Systems Research Institute - Web Home Page is a great source of information and materials. If you work with Windows, you can even download a free copy of ArcView Version 1.0/GIS Software for Windows. Maps and images, as well as sample datasets are also available.
