CBL Interfacing
View Screens
The Texas Instruments ViewScreen makes it possible to enlarge
and project the image of the TI-82 display so it can be viewed
by an entire class. A ten-foot cable links a specially-constructed
TI-82 calculator to the unit that sits atop an overhead projector.
This arrangement enables instructors to control presentations
while moving around the room. In this way, they can easily integrate
classroom presentations with individual instruction.
Other vendors may also carry similar products.
I know of one teacher who uses a Camcorder connected to a VCR
and monitor to project the entire calculator onto a screen. That
helps students see how to get results, while the view-screens
only shows the display.
Another teacher, when introducing the CBL
system for the first time, set up two overhead projectors. One
overhead projected a transparency of the Calculator and the other
overhead, when used with a view screen, projected what the students
would see on their Graphing Calculator Screens.
Unfortunately, the view screens are not interchangeable
with different calculators (i.e. a TI-82 requires an TI-82 view
screen, TI-85 requires a TI-85 view screen).
