Etymology comes from the Latin 'etymologia,' from the Greek 'etymon' and
'logia' from 'logos.' 'Etymon' means "the literal meaning of a word according
to its origin"--whew! The root is 'etymos' or 'eteos' both meaning true. So
for some etymology tries to fathom "the true meaning" of a word, while others
of us are just happy to know where the word has traveled from.
