Terminators: Wordplays for Ideas & Insights

Methanol

Methanol is wood alcohol. The word comes from the Greek 'methy' meaning wine and 'hyle' meaning wood. Like methane and methylene, it has but one carbon. But "wood wine" is not good wine: methanol causes blindness if consumed. Methanol burns and is a fuel in some racing cars.
