Eric S. Lander is associate professor of biology and director of the Center for Genome Research, both at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also is a member of the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research. Lander received his AB in mathematics from Princeton University and his DPhil in mathematics from Oxford University. He is a Rhodes scholar, a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a MacArthur Prize fellow. He also is a member of the Genetics Society of America, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Academy of Forensic Science. Lander has served on numerous national advisory committees for the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation and the National Academy of Sciences. He is a former trustee of Princeton University. His hobbies include hiking and woodworking.
