Health Resources for Students
These web sites have health resources especially written for children and young adults or they have material that would be particularly useful for students and others researching a particular disease for a school report or for personal information.
BAM! Body and Mind
From the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, BAM! answers kids questions and gives them an entertaining way to learn about their minds and bodies. Sections, all with interactive components, include Fit4Life, Disease Detectives, Head Strong, Str8Talk, WhizKids and Survival Skills.
Girls Health
Created to help girls (ages 10-16) learn about health, growing up, and issues they may face, gives girls reliable, useful information on the health issues they will face as they become young women and tips on handling relationships with family and friends, at school and at home.
KidsHealth
Created by The Nemours Foundation Center for Children's Health Media, this site has separate areas for kids, teens, and parents - each with its own design, age-appropriate content, and tone.
healthfinder® kids
Games and activities, information on safe web navigation, and art projects are all aimed at helping kids understand how to protect their bodies and minds. Parents and other child care givers will find resources especially for them in a separate section.
NIDA for Teens: The Science Behind Drug Abuse
Each part of this site -- Glossary, Exercise Your Brain, Answer This, Ask Dr. NIDA, and Mind Over Matter -- engagingly compliments the others. Designed to encourage students in grades five through nine to learn about the effects of drug abuse on the body and the brain, older students will find the site a engaging and a useful "place to begin."
National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Kids' Pages
Many on screen and hands on activities. In addition, they have a great A > Z list of diseases and conditions caused by or made worse by environmental factors. Very kid friendly!
CDC Health Topics from A to Z
This comprehensive collection of government material on various health topics is organized according to name of the disease. The site also has sections that focus on baby, children's, adolescent, women's, men's and senior health issues. Many of the pages use technical language.
Doctor Over Time
You, the viewer, see how doctors in 1900, 1950, and 1998 would have handled the same afflictions. All you have to do is complain to the doctor, then see how he or she responds. Both Shockwave and text versions are posted.
For Kids, Teens and Educators from the FDA
Featuring activities developed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (FDA-CFSAN) for Kids and Teens helps kids understand food safety. Students looking for research project ideas, guidelines and resources will find Student Resources especially helpful.
