I teach AP Biology and am the K-12 science coordinator in Troy School district. I am active at the state level on committees involved in our statewide science assessment and updating our state science framework. My real love is environmental education and we have a strong district program. Our district recently discovered that an 80 acre parcel of district- owned land contains some 29 acres of rare lake plaine prairie and is home to many unusual plants and animals. We have rescued it from becoming a golf course and now restoration, public education, etc. have become major projects for my students. It is an awesome and very exciting learning experience for us all! Any insights would be most welcome!!
