Forks Alternative School
I am in my 21st year of teaching in the small rural town of Forks, Washington. We measure rainfall in feet, not inches (we average 12 feet per year and 1996 was much higher). I teach an award winning integrated environmental science program that I call Hypothesis. We work with scientists and other professionals (60 volunteers per year) and write, write, write! We have on-going projects including a nesting box project, fisheries enhancement project, and water quality project in the forests nearby. These kids who all are at risk of not graduating from high school "do" science in a three hour block of time every day.
